Dr. Scott Hamilton is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Lakehead University. His research spans fur trade historic archaeology, northern plains and boreal forest Aboriginal archaeology, and computational applications in archaeology, including GIS, GPS, and geophysical remote sensing. He also explores geoarchaeology, landscape archaeology, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and ancient DNA studies.
- Current research includes documenting Oral Tradition information for northern Ontario Aboriginal tourism initiatives with Northern Ojibwe and Cree First Nations
- Co-investigator in the 5-year SCAPE (SCArce Plai) project on Holocene Aboriginal adaptations
- Primary investigator for SSHRC-funded research on the Woodland Caribou Signature Site
In 2020, he was honored with the J.V. Wright Lifetime Achievement Award. His lab collaborates with Ontario Parks, Pikangikum First Nation, and universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg.
