Scott Dixon is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Lawrence University, where he has been since 2021. Previously, he held the same position at Ashoka University until 2021 and was a Kit Fine Fellow at the University of Hamburg (2018–2020). He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, Davis (2015), with prior degrees from the University of Wyoming (M.A., 2008) and the University of Montana (B.A., 2005).
His research focuses on grounding, metaphysical regresses, properties, propositions, and related topics in metaphysics. Additional interests include logic, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of religion. His work has been published in journals like Philosophical Studies, Journal of Philosophical Logic, and Metaphysics.
Key areas of investigation include directionalism in relations, the nature of symmetric relations, and metaphysical foundationalism vs. infinitism. His analyses often employ hyperintensional tools like essence and grounding to address traditional metaphysical puzzles.
Education history spans diverse institutions: Ph.D. UC Davis (2015), M.A. University of Wyoming (2008), B.A. University of Montana (2005). He also held a visiting Ph.D. position at ANU’s School of Philosophy (2014).
