Scott Dixon is a Senior Lecturer in History at Queen's University Belfast, affiliated with the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. He specializes in early modern European religious history, particularly the development of confessional identity in Germany and the historiography of Protestantism. His research explores themes such as the Reformation, social and cultural history, and Renaissance historiography.
Education: Dixon earned his PhD at the University of Cambridge under R.W. Scribner, following studies at the University of St. Andrews. He has held research fellowships from the British Academy and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, including a Senior Research Fellowship in Germany.
Research Interests: His work spans early modern Germany's religious landscape, Protestantism's historiography, and the cultural dimensions of Reformation narratives. Key publications include Protestants: A History from Wittenberg to Pennsylvania (2010) and Contesting the Reformation (2012). He is currently co-editing a historiography volume and researching the cultural role of forests in early modern Germany.
Awards: Notable recognitions include the British Academy's 'Living with Religious Diversity in Early Modern Europe' award (2008) and multiple Humboldt Foundation fellowships (1999–2007).
Advising & Grants: Accepting PhD students in early modern religious history, Dixon has supervised three doctoral projects. He has secured grants including the 2006 project 'The Sense of the Past in Reformation Germany.'
