معرفی
Dr. Scott Chapman is a Professor and Killam Professor in Astrophysics at the Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science, Faculty of Science, Dalhousie University. His research integrates observational astrophysics, cosmology, and advanced instrumentation development.
- Key Projects: CCAT-prime telescope (2026), GIRMOS spectrograph (Gemini 2028), POLARBEAR CMB polarization experiment
- Instrumentation Focus: Submillimeter cameras (350um), Adaptive Optics systems, superconducting detectors (KIDs)
His research spans galaxy evolution across 13.7 Gyr, with applications in early universe studies (protoclusters), cosmic microwave background analysis (lensing/B-modes), and Local Group archaeology through M31 star mapping. His work bridges lab-based detector development with field observations from telescopes in Hawaii and Chile.
Scientific Recognition:
- 2020 CFI grant for CCAT-prime 350um camera
- 2018 NSERC-Engage grant for Avalanche Photo-Diode detectors
- 2017 CFI grant for GIRMOS spectrograph
- Published in Nature (2013, 2018) on galaxy clusters and cosmic evolution
Chapman's group offers opportunities in observational astronomy and laboratory instrumentation, with technical applications extending to dark matter detection, medical THz imaging, and homeland security gamma-ray detectors.
