Scarlett Jin is a Post Doctoral Associate in the Department of Geography at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). She holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, an M.Phil. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a B.Sc. from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her research focuses on urban geography, spatial analysis, and the sharing economy, particularly investigating shared mobility systems in North American cities and shrinking industrial cities in China. She explores how technological and economic shifts impact urban societies through mixed-methods approaches.
Her work spans topics like equity in bikesharing accessibility, spatial determinants of micromobility, and the environmental impacts of transportation networks. She has contributed to over 14 peer-reviewed articles since 2014, with recent emphasis on urban renewal, machine learning applications in mobility studies, and policy implications of shared mobility models. Her research also bridges urban China’s socio-spatial dynamics and global geo-economic trends.
Scarlett’s affiliations include the Center for Geospatial Information Technology at Virginia Tech. Her scholarship frequently addresses interdisciplinary themes, such as the interplay between transport networks and urban equity, leveraging GIS and spatial analysis to inform policy decisions.
