Saša Istenič is an Assistant Professor of Sinology and Director of the Taiwan Study Center at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts, Department of Asian Studies. She holds a PhD and specializes in cross-Taiwan Strait relations, EU-China/Taiwan relations, and East Asian security and diplomacy. Her work has been supported by awards such as the National Sun Yat-sen University doctoral dissertation prize.
Research interests focus on geopolitical dynamics in East Asia, with a particular emphasis on Taiwan's foreign policy and cross-strait relations. She actively contributes to academic discourse through international conferences and publications.
As Director of the Taiwan Study Center, she leads initiatives promoting research on Taiwan and China. Her recent publications include analyses of Taiwan's diplomatic strategies and East Asia's security landscapes.
Awarded for her doctoral research, she continues to engage in policy-relevant scholarship. She speaks Slovene, Croatian, English, Chinese, German, and Japanese, enhancing her cross-cultural research capabilities.
