Dr Sazana Jayadeva is a Surrey Future Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of Surrey. Previously, she held positions as an Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge and a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey and UCL Institute of Education. Her research focuses on education, migration, language, social class, and digital/social media, employing qualitative methods including interviews, ethnographies, and creative approaches.
Key qualifications include a PhD and MPhil in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge. She contributes to editorial roles at Sociological Research Online and serves on the Scientific Committee of the Global Council on Anthropological Linguistics.
Current research projects include:
- Virtual Mobilities of International Students (VIRMOBS): Examines international higher education through transnational collaboration.
- Study-Abroad Influencers: Analyzes YouTube’s role in facilitating Indian student mobility to Germany.
- Branding destiNATIONS: Investigates higher education marketing strategies in Israel, South Korea, and India.
- Tracking Long COVID: Studies patient use of self-tracking technologies.
Her work bridges digital media’s societal impacts with global education policies, particularly in transnational student mobility. Recent publications address pandemic effects on student migration, social media influencers in education, and marketization debates in European universities.
Dr Jayadeva advises four PhD students and has secured funding through initiatives like the Open Research Area and the University of Surrey. Her research often highlights paradoxes in education systems and emphasizes the role of digital platforms in shaping modern migration patterns.
