Emma Abotsi is a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her research focuses on youth, education, migration, and development, with a geographical emphasis on the UK and West Africa. She holds a DPhil in Education from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Education from Oxford, an MPhil in Social Anthropological Analysis from the University of Cambridge, and a BA in Photography from Camberwell College of Arts. Her work explores transnational educational strategies among immigrant communities, including British-Ghanaian families’ schooling choices and the experiences of young people involved. Recent research includes studies on return migration and educational archives.
Her academic projects include 'Sociology in the archives' (2019-20), funded by the British Sociological Association and the British Library, and 'The African diaspora in the UK: A mapping study' (2016-17), supported by GIZ. Her publications analyze Afropolitan schooling, transnational mobility, and educational policies in Senegal, Ghana, and the UK.
