Sayantan Ghosal is a Professor of Economics and holds the Adam Smith Chair in Political Economy at the University of Glasgow's Adam Smith Business School. He is affiliated with the Microeconomics research cluster and serves on numerous academic and policy boards, including the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Academy of Social Sciences. His research focuses on general equilibrium theory, behavioral poverty traps, political economy, and sovereign debt restructuring. Ghosal has supervised over 25 PhD students and secured over £10 million in research grants, including leadership roles in the ESRC-funded Centre for Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy (CAGE) and projects addressing climate change and inequality.
