Sawsan Rashdan

Sawsan Rashdan, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hematology & Oncology. She specializes in treating thoracic malignancies and holds leadership roles as Director of Thoracic Medical Oncology Clinical Operations, Division Quality Officer, and Director of Health Equity in the division of hematology and oncology. Her work focuses on reducing healthcare inequities and improving access to cancer prevention education in minority groups.

Dr. Rashdan earned her medical degree from Damascus University (Syria) and completed her residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, followed by fellowships in hematology and oncology. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in these specialties and has been at UT Southwestern since 2016.

Her research emphasizes lung cancer, including clinical trials investigating treatments like stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and immunotherapy. She also explores systemic immune parameters and drug interactions in cancer patients. Dr. Rashdan actively mentors fellows, residents, and medical students, leading the lung cancer curriculum at Parkland Hospital.

Professional affiliations include the American Society of Clinical Oncology, International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and Dallas County Medical Society. She contributes to committees such as Supporting Women in Achieving Greatness and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UTSW.
