Savvas Nicolaou

Dr. Savvas Nicolaou is a Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine, serving as Director of Emergency and Trauma Imaging at Vancouver General Hospital and Vice-Chair of Undergraduate Radiology Medical Education. He holds dual board certifications as an FRCPC and ABR radiologist with SCCT Level 3 certification in Cardiac Imaging.

His educational background includes an MD from the University of Toronto and Diagnostic Radiology residency at UBC. Research focuses on advancing acute care imaging through Ultra Low dose CT protocols, Dual Energy CT applications, polytrauma imaging, brain perfusion analysis, and AI integration to develop faster, safer diagnostic methods for emergency settings.

With over 150 peer-reviewed articles and 400+ abstracts, his work bridges Emergency Radiology, CT innovation, and artificial intelligence. He actively mentors medical trainees and leads curriculum development in undergraduate radiology education.

Dr. Nicolaou drives interdisciplinary collaboration through the Biomedical Imaging and AI research cluster, with current projects optimizing MRI protocols for appendicitis diagnosis and evaluating coronary CT angiography in troponin-positive emergency patients.
