Saul Garcia-Lopez

Saul Garcia-Lopez serves as a Professor of Performance at the Norwegian Theatre Academy (NTA), part of Østfold University College since 2020. He is also co-artistic director of the interdisciplinary collective La Pocha Nostra, with over 800 global collaborators. His academic leadership includes coordinating the Master in Performance program and leading the international artistic development project Radical Elders: Transgenerational Performance Knowledges, funded by Hk-dir/PKU.

Research interests intersect performance theory, pedagogy, and activism, emphasizing decolonial frameworks, indigenous methodologies, and transnational identity politics. His work interrogates embodiment, gender, ethnicity, and postcolonial critique through experimental performance practices. Recent publications include contributions to Latinx Actor Training (Routledge, 2023) and the edited volume La Pocha Nostra: A Handbook for The Rebel Artist (2021). He has taught at institutions such as Stanford University, NYU, UC Berkeley, and UNAM Mexico City, while conducting virtual workshops during the pandemic.

As an international assessor for the Program for Artistic Development (PKU) and a participant in networks like NASPA and Norteas, Garcia-Lopez bridges academic, artistic, and pedagogical innovation across Nordic, Baltic, and Americas contexts.
