Satwinder Samra is a practising architect and educator serving as Director of Collaborative Practice and Senior University Teacher at the Sheffield School of Architecture, University of Sheffield. Over more than two decades he has held numerous leadership roles including Director of MArch, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Year 3, and has steered the school through multiple successful RIBA visiting boards.

Research & Teaching Focus
Satwinder’s scholarship interrogates new pedagogical models that dissolve boundaries between academia, practice and industry. His current MArch studio centres on ageing and intergenerational architecture in the post-industrial contexts of Hull and Sheffield, encouraging students to create socially enterprising yet architecturally ambitious interventions. Complementary interests encompass urban renewal, social housing, architectural representation and professional mediation.

Professional Practice & Outreach
After early career stints at Urban Splash and Proctor Matthews, he co-founded Sauce Architecture (1998-2013). Today he advises leading UK and international practices, collaborates on competitions such as the New Irish Embassy in Tokyo and the Aarhus School of Architecture, and appears as on-screen designer for CBBC’s “The Dengineers”. He is a trustee of S1 Artspace, RIBA Role Model, and frequent external examiner and guest critic at institutions worldwide.
