Saturn Miettinen is a Professor at the Faculty of Art and Design, University of Lapland. She leads research in Service Design, Arts-based Methods, and Empathy-driven innovation. Her work emphasizes place-making in Arctic contexts and strategic foresight in design. She has led 33 projects including EU-funded initiatives like ProtoXR and VTST, focusing on virtual production technologies and empathy in business. Key awards include the ADI Golden Compass Honourable Mention and Tiedepalkinto.
Research interests span service design methodologies, non-human communication, and bioart collaborations. She has supervised 18 projects and published 319 works since 1997. Current roles include co-leadership of UArctic's Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design network and the DeSo Designed Society community. Teaching involves graduate programs like the Joint Master's in Service Design Strategies.
