Satish Rao

Satish Rao is a Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, where he also serves as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and founding Director of the Digestive Health Center. With academic appointments dating back to 2011, he specializes in neuromodulation therapy and biofeedback for gastrointestinal motility disorders. His credentials include an MD from Osmania University (1979), MRCP from the Royal College of Physicians (UK, 1982), a PhD from the University of Sheffield (UK, 1987), and certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology (1998) and Internal Medicine (1996).

His research focuses on neuromodulation therapy for fecal incontinence and biofeedback therapy for dyssynergic defecation, supported by over 10 ongoing projects. Recent publications highlight clinical trials on therapies for chronic constipation (plecanatide, vibrating capsules) and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (rifaximin). These works span pharmacology, device development, and clinical outcomes analysis.
