Professor Sasha Roseneil is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Sussex, a role she has held since August 2022. She is the first female Vice-Chancellor in the university's history. Prior to this, she served as Pro-Provost for Equity and Inclusion and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences at University College London (UCL), and as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Essex. Her career includes leadership roles at Birkbeck, University of London and the University of Leeds.
Her research focuses on intimate relationships, citizenship, and social movements, with a pioneering contribution to interdisciplinary fields like Gender Studies and Psychosocial Studies. She holds a sociological background and later became a group analyst and psychotherapist. Notable professional distinctions include being a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, alongside membership in the Institute of Group Analysis and as a Founding Scholar of the British Psychoanalytic Council.
Her publications reflect her interdisciplinary approach, addressing topics such as gender, public policy, and social structures. Recent works include examining cold-water swimming’s impacts on women’s health and advocating for universities’ roles in environmental sustainability. Her leadership emphasizes equity, inclusion, and academic freedom, shaping institutional policies and fostering diverse scholarly communities.
