Professor Julia Goodfellow, CBE, is a distinguished academic and scientific leader. She held roles as Professor of Biomolecular Science, Head of the Department of Crystallography, and Vice-Master at Birkbeck, University of London, before becoming the first female Chief Executive of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). She currently serves as Vice Chancellor of the University of Kent.
Education: BSc in Physics (University of Bristol), PhD in Biophysics (Open University), postdoctoral research at Stanford University.
Research interests include the role of water in protein structure, structural biology, and biophysics. She advocates for gender equity in STEM and led BBSRC initiatives in biosciences, including stem cell research, systems biology, and integrative multidisciplinary approaches.
