Sascha Werthes is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Department of Political Science, University of Trier, and a Senior Research Associate Fellow at the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate, University Koblenz-Landau. He holds a PhD from Philipps-University Marburg and has held academic positions at Goethe University Frankfurt, University Duisburg-Essen, and Philipps-University Marburg.
His research focuses on Peace and Conflict Studies, International Relations, Human Security, and Global Governance. Notable works include analyses of UN sanctions policies, conflict management in post-conflict societies, and the role of international organizations in crisis resolution. He has contributed to projects on African human security indices and transformative conflict economies funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
Werthes has published extensively on global governance, sanctions regimes, and peacebuilding. His recent publications address world order discourses, crisis management in the DR Congo, and the evolving role of the United Nations in global politics. He actively participates in international conferences and policy dialogues, such as the UN Economic Commission for Africa’s expert meeting on human security indices.
His teaching spans courses on international relations, global governance, and conflict management, emphasizing both theoretical frameworks and practical case studies. He has organized workshops on peacebuilding and resource governance and served as Managing Director of the German Society of Political Science.
