Dr Sascha Miller is a Senior Research Fellow (Qualitative) at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Medicine, specializing in digital behavior change interventions. She is a member of the Centre for Clinical and Community Applications of Health Psychology, Primary Care Research Centre, and Primary Care Behavioural Science Group. Her work focuses on implementing digital interventions and conducting mixed methods process evaluations, particularly in the context of antimicrobial resistance and infection prevention.
Dr Miller completed her academic training with:
- PhD in Psychology (focused on evaluating engagement with Germ Defence and developing the AMUsED framework)
- MSc in Social and Organisational Psychology (University of Exeter)
- BSc(Hons) in Psychology (Solent University)
Dr Miller's research centers on the development, evaluation, and implementation of digital behavior change interventions using the person-based approach. She has extensive experience with the Germ Defence project since 2008, which aims to reduce virus spread in homes through infection prevention behaviors. Her work has been endorsed by NICE as a resource to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and was funded by the UK Government for optimization during the COVID-19 pandemic. She specializes in mixed methods process evaluations of digital interventions, particularly examining how digital tools can support pharmacists and patients in managing common infections while addressing antimicrobial resistance.
Analysis of Dr Miller's publication record reveals a consistent focus on digital interventions for infection prevention across home and primary care settings. Her research demonstrates expertise in adapting interventions for pandemic contexts, with particular emphasis on respiratory tract infections and antimicrobial stewardship. The publications showcase her methodological strengths in mixed methods research, process evaluation, and implementation science, often examining how digital tools can be effectively integrated into healthcare systems and patient self-care practices.
Dr Miller currently leads work on the Phased-In feasibility trial, developing digital interventions to support pharmacists with new services for patients with common infections. She also contributes to the 'Working Together with Autistic Adults to Widen Research Participation' project and previously worked on the 'Health visitors' management of excessive infant crying' project. Her research has been supported by significant funding that enabled the optimization of Germ Defence during the pandemic.
