Dr. Sarah van Ingen Lauer is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of South Florida's College of Education, specializing in mathematics education, elementary education, and teacher preparation. Her research focuses on clinically rich teacher training, strategies to improve mathematics learning for struggling students, and collaboration between general and special education teachers. She has secured over $4.8 million in federal grants from the NSF and US DOE, co-authored the book Teaching Mathematics Meaningfully, and held leadership roles in national organizations like AMTE and AERA.
Her research emphasizes inclusive education practices, metacognitive strategies, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to bridge research and practice. Recent work explores leveraging teacher caregiving experiences for family communication, content-specific consultation models, and addressing equity in mathematics education through culturally responsive methods.
