Sarah Wyatt is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology at Ohio University’s College of Arts and Sciences, where she also directs the Interdisciplinary Molecular and Cell Biology Program. Her research integrates molecular, genetic, genomic, and proteomic approaches to study plant growth and development, with a focus on gravitropic signaling and responses to microgravity.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Plant Physiology from Purdue University, an M.S. in Plant Pathology from the University of Kentucky, and dual B.S. and B.A. degrees from the same institution. She has advanced through the faculty ranks at Ohio University since 2000, holding leadership roles including Associate Chair and Program Director.
Dr. Wyatt’s research spans plant signaling, particularly in response to gravity, using gps mutants and spaceflight experiments aboard the International Space Station. Her lab employs cutting-edge omics technologies and has contributed to NASA’s GeneLab initiative. Key themes in her recent publications include transcriptomic and proteomic responses to microgravity, floral development in Viola pubescens, and methodological advances in space biology.
Her scientific awards include Fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists and Sigma Xi, the MAC Outstanding Faculty Award, and multiple Presidential and Dean’s Teaching Awards from Ohio University. She has received continuous funding from NASA, NSF, and USDA for her innovative research.

She co-founded the Ohio University Genomics Facility and leads interdisciplinary collaborations in plant gravitropism and space biology.
