Sarah WOLFF

Sarah WOLFF is a Visiting Professor at the EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies Department of the College of Europe in Bruges. She concurrently holds a full professorship in International Studies and Global Politics at Leiden University and was previously a Professor of European Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Her research focuses on EU foreign policy dynamics, including the externalization of security policies, post-Brexit EU-UK relations, migration governance, and the EU’s engagement with the Mediterranean and Middle East.

Professional roles include leadership positions such as Director of QMUL’s Paris-based MA in International Relations (2021–2023) and Head of the Centre for European Research at QMUL (2017–2023). She actively contributes to academic networks as a steering committee member of UACES and ECPR SGEU, and co-convener of the ECPR Mediterranean Politics and Society Research Network. Her editorial roles include membership on the board of Mediterranean Politics.

Her major works include Secular Power Europe and Islam: Identity and Foreign Policy (2021), which received the 2023 EU Studies Association Best Book Award, and The Mediterranean Dimension of the European Union’s Internal Security (2012), a foundational text on EU external security policies. Research grants include Fulbright-Schuman and Leverhulme awards for her work on secularism and foreign policy.

Awarded the LISBOAN Research Prize (2012) for her co-edited volume Freedom, Security and Justice after Lisbon and Stockholm, her scholarship bridges policy analysis and critical theory. She also serves as a Senior Research Associate at Clingendael (Netherlands Institute of International Relations) and led the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence NEXTEUK (2019–2022) examining EU-UK relations post-Brexit.
