Sarah Self-Walbrick is a Lecturer in the Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries at Texas Tech University. As a first-generation college graduate and Lubbock native, she has a strong commitment to hyperlocal journalism and media education. She holds three degrees from the College of Media & Communication: two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Electronic Media & Communications and Journalism, and a Master of Arts in Mass Communication.
With six years of professional journalism experience, Self-Walbrick has worked as a business reporter at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and co-founded an award-winning newsroom at Texas Tech Public Media. Her reporting focuses on impactful stories about local government, social justice, and healthcare. She has taught as an adjunct instructor for six years, emphasizing hands-on, student-centered learning that has facilitated hundreds of students' success in media careers.
