Dr Sarah Rose is a Researcher at the School of Global Affairs, Lancaster University, and works within the Regional Heritage Centre as Assistant Editor for the Victoria County History of Cumbria project. Her work focuses on medieval lordship, power structures, and public engagement with history and heritage.
- MA in Museum Studies from University of Newcastle (2000).
Her research examines medieval political society in northern England, particularly the honour of Pontefract (12th–15th centuries). She coordinates volunteer researchers, providing training to meet VCH standards, and is currently researching Kirkby Lonsdale. Her publications span local history, manorial records, and regional governance in Cumbria and Lancashire.
Recent work includes a 2022 chapter on Richard III and Pontefract, a 2019 book on Cumberland, and 2019’s VCH Volunteer Handbook. She co-authored the Cumbria County History project website and received the Community Engagement Award for educational outreach. She serves as Press Officer for the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society and Reviews Editor for the British Association for Local History.
