Sarah Richardson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga, specializing in the arts and religions of South Asia with a focus on Buddhist visual and material practices, particularly Himalayan painting. Her research explores the intersection of art, religion, and community-building, and she is currently working on a book project titled Visual Words in Tibetan Architecture.

Her research emphasizes the role of mural paintings in Tibetan Buddhist knowledge production and social communication. She has also contributed to the cataloging of Tibetan paintings at the Royal Ontario Museum and hosts the podcast Teaching Buddhism, extending her work into public and digital scholarship.
