Sarah Perry is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing (specializing in creative nonfiction) at Colorado State University's Department of English, College of Liberal Arts. Her work explores intersections of love, food culture, trauma, gender-based violence, and queerness. Perry holds an M.F.A. in nonfiction from Columbia University and has taught at Columbia, University of North Texas, and Davidson College. She is the author of Sweet Nothings (2025) and After the Eclipse (2017), recognized with prestigious awards including the New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice. Her research interests include researched memoir, flash essay, and true crime criticism. Perry’s upcoming projects include The Book of Regrets (sequel memoir on trauma and love) and Two Daughters Were Away (true crime critique engaging Truman Capote’s legacy).
Her pedagogical approach emphasizes accessibility and mentorship, shaped by her first-generation college student experience and orphanhood. Perry actively addresses intersectional belonging through teaching and creative work.
