Sarah P. Slotznick is an Assistant Professor at Dartmouth College, affiliated with the Department of Earth Sciences. Her research integrates magnetic, textural, and geochemical approaches to investigate the coevolution of Earth's surface environments and life, focusing on the role of iron minerals as proxies for ancient bio- and environmental signatures.
- Education: S.B. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2009), M.S. (2012) and Ph.D. (2016) from California Institute of Technology
Slotznick's work spans geologic time periods from the Modern to the Archean, emphasizing iron's role in planetary redox budgets and its applications in understanding oxygenation events, paleoenvironmental conditions, and biosphere evolution. She employs sequential extraction techniques to analyze iron speciation and uses magnetofossils as records in deep time and space contexts.
Her recent publications highlight advancements in paleoenvironmental reconstruction, Precambrian oxygenation studies, and iron mineralogy. These works cover subfields such as environmental signatures preservation, anoxic ocean conditions, and biosignature detection in ancient rocks.
