Christopher MacEvitt is the Preston H. Kelsey Professor of Religion and Chair of the Department of Religion at Dartmouth College. His work focuses on medieval Christian communities across the Mediterranean, emphasizing religious identity and interfaith interaction. He holds a B.A. from Trinity College (1995) and a Ph.D. in History from Princeton University (2002).
His research explores topics such as tolerance in crusader states, Franciscan martyrdom in Islamic lands, and competing visions of Jerusalem. Current projects include a study of Jerusalem's symbolic role in 14th-century Mediterranean thought. He teaches courses on early Christianity, interreligious dynamics in the crusader era, and the New Testament.
Publications include major works on crusader tolerance and Franciscan martyrdom, alongside articles in Al-Masāq and Journal of Medieval History. His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, integrating historical analysis with contemporary religious discourse.
