Dr. Sarah Muller is an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Languages, Arts and Societies at the University of Sheffield, specializing in Modern Languages and Cultures. She serves as a Teaching Assistant for Luxembourgish language courses and conducts research on sociolinguistics and language education policy in Luxembourg.
Her academic background includes:
- PhD from the University of Sheffield (2021)
- MA in English Language & Linguistics from the University of Sheffield (2016)
- MA in English Language & Linguistics and Sociology from the University of Glasgow (2015)
Dr. Muller's research focuses on sociolinguistics, educational linguistics, multilingualism, language attitudes, language ideologies, and language (education) policy. Her work employs critical ethnographic methods to investigate primary school students' lived experiences of language policies in Luxembourg, emphasizing narrative analysis and multimodal perspectives.
Her scholarly output consistently examines language policy implementation in Luxembourgish primary education through student-centered lenses. Recent work explores translanguaging practices, linguistic repertoires, and the intersection of pedagogy and policy in multilingual contexts, presented at international conferences and published in edited volumes.

Dr. Muller currently serves as Research Associate on the British Academy-funded project 'European Migration, Language Policy and Small States'. She has organized postgraduate research workshops and co-founded the Arts and Humanities Writing Retreats, demonstrating strong commitment to research culture development.
She is actively involved with the Centre for Luxembourg Studies and Luxembourg Educational Research Association (LuxERA), contributing to collaborative projects like the student-created Luxembourgish creative writing website that showcases linguistic innovation in educational contexts.
