Sarah Moynihan is a Lecturer in Music at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century music, particularly on reinterpreting Jean Sibelius’s musical forms within historical and political contexts. She teaches courses on tonality, music analysis, and dissertation supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Her research expertise spans Music Theory, Formenlehre, Sonata Theory, and Neo-Riemannian Theory, often intersecting with critical theory and Nordic cultural studies. Her recent work explores Sibelius’s 'Living Tonality' and the politicization of language in his bilingual compositions.
