Professor Sarah McGann is the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus since 2014. She holds a Doctorate in Architecture and Cultural Studies from Curtin University, alongside qualifications from the Dublin School of Architecture and Trinity College, Dublin. She is an Architect Accredited in Conservation (Grade 3) and registered in Ireland.
Her academic leadership roles include former Head of the Department of Architecture and Interior Architecture at Curtin University and Offshore Program Coordinator for Hong Kong University’s Bachelor of Architecture. She currently serves as Adjunct Professor at The University of Western Australia (UWA).
Research interests focus on the 'social life of buildings,' particularly architectural design’s impact on occupants and quality of life in aged care and healthcare facilities. She leads a national interdisciplinary study with Mercy Health on aged care design and previously contributed to the Active Building Design Research group. Her published works include The Production of Hospice Space (2016) and an upcoming Routledge volume on ageing and architectural space.
Award-winning architect in Ireland, Sarah consults on design for health, hospitality, and aged care, blending academic research with professional practice. She has contributed to national accreditation processes for architecture programs across multiple universities.
