John McGann

John McGann is a Lecturer in the School of Physics, Clinical and Optometric Sciences at TU Dublin, teaching in the BSc Optometry programme since 2002. He serves as Year 3 Tutor and Optometric Practice Placement Coordinator while running the Binocular Vision Clinic at the National Optometry Centre.

His educational background includes first-class honours in Optometry from DIT (1985), a Diploma in Optometry (Dip Optom), and a Master of Public Health (MPH).

Specializing in binocular vision disorders, his research focuses on heterophoric/accommodative anomalies management and vision-learning relationships. He has delivered CPD workshops internationally on advanced clinical techniques through TU Dublin, Unilúrio (Mozambique), and the Association of Optometrists Ireland.

As Placement Coordinator, he oversees student clinical placements and provides mentorship through the Binocular Vision Clinic, which functions as both a patient care facility and advanced teaching unit for optometry students.
