Sarah Maddison

Prof. Sarah Maddison is an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University of Technology and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education, Experience, and Employability). She holds a dual role as a leading astrophysicist researching planet formation and an education strategist. Her research focuses on protoplanetary disks, dust evolution, and planet-disk interactions using computational models and telescopes like the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. She leads the Planets Group at Swinburne's Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing.

Prof. Maddison is actively involved in promoting gender equity in STEM, founding the Women in Astronomy chapter and leading Swinburne's participation in the Science Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Pilot. She chairs committees such as the Australian Institute of Physics' Women in Physics and the Square Kilometre Array 'Cradle of Life' Science Working Group.

Her recent grants include funding for the Nanten2 telescope and water vapor radiometers. Awards include the NOVA Award (2014) and Office of Learning & Teaching Citation (2012). She supervises PhD candidates in astrophysics and has authored over 200 publications, spanning topics from planetary science to decolonization policy in academia.

Her advocacy extends to Indigenous futures and treaty negotiations in Australia, addressing systemic inequities in education and research. She is a prolific speaker and writer on science policy, equity, and international collaboration.
