Sarah Lockwood is a doctoral candidate at Northeastern University’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, specializing in victimization studies. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and B.S. in Criminology from the University of South Florida, and a Master’s in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Northeastern. Her research focuses on the intersection of victimization and formal institutions, particularly examining responses to sex trafficking, hate crimes, and the health needs of marginalized communities. She has contributed to six National Institute of Justice grants, including studies on Latinx victims of hate crimes and minor sex trafficking survivors. Currently, she serves as a research consultant for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County.
Her work emphasizes understanding barriers to help-seeking among vulnerable populations and informing policy interventions. Key areas include male victims of sex trafficking, race-based trauma in Latinx communities, and improving institutional responses to victimization. In 2023, she received the Outstanding Graduate Researcher Award from Northeastern for her impactful contributions to criminological research.
Her articles explore hate crime trends, Latinx victimization dynamics, and adolescent dating abuse networks, offering critical insights into systemic challenges and community resilience strategies.
Through collaborations with the Center on Crime, Race and Justice, she bridges academic research with practical solutions, advocating for evidence-based policies to address modern crime challenges.
