Sarah Latchney is an Associate Professor of Neurobiology in the Biology Department at St. Mary's College of Maryland. She is currently on sabbatical from August 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026.
Education:
- B.S. in Biology, St. Lawrence University (2006)
- Ph.D. in Toxicology, University of Rochester (2012)
Research Interests: Dr. Latchney investigates how early-life environmental exposures (including pollutants, natural compounds, and pharmaceuticals) influence neurogenesis and neuronal physiology in the developing brain. Her interdisciplinary work bridges neuroscience, toxicology, and environmental health, with a focus on molecular regulators and neuro-immune interactions in psychiatric/neurological disorders.
Scientific Awards:
- Homer L. Dodge Award for Excellence in Teaching by a Junior Faculty Member (2024)
Teaching Roles: She teaches foundational and advanced courses including BIOL 105 (Principles of Biology), BIOL 380 (Neurotoxicology), and NEUR 201 (Introduction to Neurosciences).
Labs & Teams: Dr. Latchney leads a research lab where students employ cellular and molecular techniques to study environmental impacts on brain development.
