Dr. Sarah Lappin is a Senior Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast in the School of Natural and Built Environment, specializing in Sustainable Built Environment. She holds a PhD from the University of Ulster, alongside degrees from Columbia and Princeton Universities. Her research focuses on architecture and identity, 20th-century architectural history, and sound’s role in urban environments. She co-founded the All-Ireland Architectural Research Group and co-directs the Recomposing the City project, exploring sound-architecture collaborations.
Dr. Lappin’s teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including design studios and professional skills modules. She has received multiple awards, including the Queen’s University Team Teaching Award (2010, 2018) and the Alpha Rho Chi Award (1998). Her work intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly urban sustainability and cultural preservation.
Her recent research includes studies on Belfast’s Quiet Rooms and the Ulster '71 festival’s cultural impact. She actively contributes to academic peer review and international conferences, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to architectural challenges.
