Agustina Martire

Agustina Martire is a Professor (Reader) in Architecture at Queen's University Belfast's School of Natural and Built Environment, specializing in urban design and inclusive urban spaces. She leads the StreetSpace project, an interdisciplinary initiative exploring mixed-use streets and community engagement. Her work integrates architecture, urban history, and anthropology to advocate for equitable urban development. She collaborates with Belfast City Council and global institutions, including UNESCO and the University of Washington, on projects like Open Botanic and Save Cathedral Quarter (SaveCQ).

Her career includes roles at Delft University of Technology (PhD, 2005-2008), UCD Dublin (Postdoc, 2009-2010), and Buenos Aires universities. Awards include two Discretionary Performance Awards (2014, 2016), a Higher Education Academy Fellowship (2015), and grants from NWO and Van Eesteren Stichting. She coordinates Queen's MArch StreetSpace Studio and interdisciplinary lectures.

Research focuses on urban morphology, mixed-use streets, and decolonizing urban narratives. Projects include StreetSpace workshops in Belfast, Naples, and Edinburgh, as well as the Violence against Women and Girls initiative. Her pedagogy innovations, like peer reviews in History/Theory modules, were shortlisted for a teaching award. Key collaborations include the All Ireland Architectural Research Group and Women in Architecture NI.

Awards include grants for Buenos Aires research (2008), Chicago travel (2006), and a 1999-2001 UBACyT scholarship. Her recent work explores green space-crime linkages, participatory urban design, and Belfast's urban heritage preservation.
