Dr. Sarah Knuth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Durham University. Her research focuses on urban climate finance, renewable energy, and financialization’s role in sustainability transitions.

- MS in Geography (2006) and BS in Earth Sciences (2004) from The Pennsylvania State University
Her work explores the intersection of climate justice, financial systems, and urban planning, particularly in the context of mortgage finance, power transmission, and low-carbon development. She also investigates the geopolitical dimensions of China’s urban presence and the social implications of renewable energy projects.
Dr. Knuth’s recent publications include studies on PACE financing in Florida, renewable energy’s fiscal geographies, and the role of speculative capital in property investment. These articles span topics such as climate retrofitting, green devaluation, and urban real estate technologies.
She supervises PhD students including Helen James, Rebecca Pearl-Martinez, and Sheng Xuan, and contributes to discussions on environmental policy through her book chapters and journal articles.
