Dr. Sarah Kehoe serves as Assistant Professor in Global Health at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), University of Sussex, based in the Global Health and Infection Department. A public health nutritionist with extensive field experience across India, South Asia, and Africa, her work bridges research, education, and community engagement in global health contexts.
Her educational foundation includes a BSc in Physiology and Psychology from the University of Southampton, a Masters in Public Health Nutrition, and a PhD investigating micronutrient supplementation and women's health through cohort studies in India.
Dr. Kehoe's research centers on the social and environmental determinants of child and adolescent diet and physical activity, with emphasis on intervention co-design and community engagement in low-resource settings. Her work integrates planetary health and sustainability frameworks, examining how seasonal food insecurity, urbanization, and climate factors impact nutritional outcomes. Current projects focus on diet quality assessment tools like the Global Diet Quality Score (GDQS) and behavior change interventions for maternal-child nutrition in sub-Saharan Africa.
Recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on diet quality metrics, maternal-child nutrition, and context-specific intervention design, primarily through mixed-methods studies in India and Africa. Her work frequently appears in high-impact nutrition and public health journals including Nutrition Reviews and Public Health Nutrition.
As an educator, Dr. Kehoe supervises BSc, MSc, and PhD students and has led the MSc Health Promotion programme at the University of Brighton. She teaches core modules on health promotion, global health perspectives, and research methods, employing a student-centered approach that values diverse experiences and fosters critical analysis of health systems.
Her international collaborations span multiple continents through the NIHR-funded INPreP research group, where she served as Training and Capacity Building Lead, developing sustainable research partnerships with institutions in Ghana, Burkina Faso, and South Africa.
