Professor Sarah Jones is a distinguished academic at the University of Hull, serving as Academic Lead for Education Studies and TESOL within the School of Education. She also directs the Online Masters in Education program and leads the development of the Global Competence Framework for the university. Nationally, she previously served as Vice Chair of the professional Association for Information Technology in Teacher Education (TPE), engaging with UK government agencies on technology and education policy. Internationally, she holds the position of RDC Chair on Global Education at the Association of Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE) and is Founder and Trustee of the Education Futures Collaboration, a professional charity focused on improving global education through evidence-based research.
Professor Jones' research primarily focuses on Global Education, with three interlinked strands: Global Citizenship and Competence, Translational Research in Education, and Education and Community Engagement in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her work investigates how emerging Global Education pedagogies transform teaching practices and student learning experiences across diverse contexts. She has secured significant external funding for international research projects examining pedagogic shift and transformational change in educational partnerships. Her research directly aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
Her scholarly output demonstrates consistent high-impact contributions to educational theory and practice, particularly in global competence assessment, translational research methodologies, and digital literacies. Her recent publications reveal an increasing focus on European perspectives on global competence education, nonformal education sectors, and the application of Biesta's educational frameworks. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical implementation in teacher education programs worldwide.
