Associate Professor Sarah Jennifer Steinwachs is the Visual Studies Design Area Coordinator at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, where she has taught since 1997. Her pedagogical focus is the core Design I–III sequence, while her creative practice encompasses drawing, painting and construction work exhibited nationally and internationally.

Research & Creative Focus:
Steinwachs’s studio work investigates intersections between the urban environment and natural forms within human-made spaces. Influenced by residencies and experiences in Rome and Tokyo as well as her native Colorado and adopted Philadelphia, her imagery translates city textures, architectural rhythms and organic interventions into layered drawings, paintings and dimensional constructions.
Teaching & Coordination:
As Design Area Coordinator she oversees curriculum for Visual Studies Design courses, guiding foundation-level students through iterative design thinking, formal analysis and material exploration across the three-semester sequence.
