Ricardo Zapata is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design in Philadelphia, PA. His interdisciplinary studio practice investigates themes of power struggle, displacement, transgression, and anxiety through historical events, urbanism, activism, and colonialism. His work spans painting, drawing, and sculpture, characterized by naturalistic representation, text integration, and fragmented spatial forms.
- Education: MFA in Painting and certificate in Graphic Design from PennDesign, University of Pennsylvania; BFA in Painting with minor in Art History from Maryland Institute College of Art
Research & Creative Work: Explores intersections of personal/historical narratives with socio-political themes, focusing on urbanism and post-colonial critique. His exhibitions have appeared internationally, including features in the Washington Post.
Collaborative Projects: Member of Pink Noise Projects, a collectively-run Philadelphia space supporting emerging and underrepresented artists.
