Sarah J. Greenwald is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Appalachian State University and a faculty affiliate in Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies within the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Union College and a Ph.D. in Riemannian Geometry from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on Geometry, Mathematics and Society, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She is recognized for her contributions to advancing women in mathematics, including editing the AWM-Springer book Fifty Years of Women in Mathematics and co-editing a PRIMUS special issue on promoting women in mathematics.
Greenwald has received prestigious awards such as the AWM Service Award and MAA Pólya Lecturer honor, alongside being named an AWM Fellow for her work in mentoring, public outreach, and advocacy. Her service contributions include roles like College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher of the Year. She actively engages in interdisciplinary initiatives, bridging mathematics with societal issues and educational pedagogy.
