Sarah Irving is a Lecturer in modern Middle Eastern history at Staffordshire University, specializing in the social and cultural history of Late Ottoman and Mandate Palestine. As a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, she researches the social history of the 1927 Jericho earthquake. Her work spans Palestinian engagement in archaeology, education, and ethnography from 1890 to 1948.
Her research interests include Palestinian history, subaltern studies, colonial histories, archaeology, and environmental humanities. She has published extensively on Arab-Jewish cultural representations and edits the journal Contemporary Levant.
Recent publications analyze cultural diplomacy, translations in Mandate Palestine, and disaster responses. Her work demonstrates interdisciplinary approaches bridging history, archaeology, and literary studies.
