Dr. Sarah Hitchen serves as a Lecturer in Philosophy at Lancaster University's School of Global Affairs, holding Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) status. She concurrently functions as the Philosophy, Politics and Religion (PPR) department's teaching developer, spearheading departmental teaching strategies, feedback practices, and pedagogical innovation initiatives.
Her research portfolio centers on the philosophy of war and conflict with particular emphasis on combatant experiences in modern warfare and insurgency contexts. She investigates military ethics, Ordinary Language Philosophy, analytic jurisprudence, and philosophy of art/aesthetics, while exploring moral-political dimensions of public commemoration in post-conflict societies like the Republic of Ireland. Additional scholarly pursuits examine practical-abstract interplay across domains including craft-technique-creativity relationships and character-action dynamics within artistic and military professions.
