Sarah Heil is a Professor of Psychology and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont’s College of Arts and Sciences. She holds an affiliate role at the Vermont Center on Behavior and Health and serves as Associate Director of the Behavioral Pharmacology of Drug Dependence Training Program. Her academic credentials include a B.A. from Wittenberg University (1992) and a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College (1997).
Her research focuses on drug abuse treatments for pregnant and postpartum women, integrating behavioral approaches (e.g., contingency management) and pharmacological strategies (e.g., opioid replacement therapies). Key areas include smoking cessation incentives, opioid dependence treatment, and interventions targeting high-risk populations. Over 140 publications span topics such as maternal health outcomes, contingency management for HIV control, and meta-analyses of smoking cessation programs.
