Sarah Hainer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh’s Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding how non-coding RNAs and nucleosome remodeling complexes regulate gene expression and cell fate decisions in embryonic stem cells (ES cells).
Her work explores the interplay between chromatin architecture, transcriptional regulation, and cellular differentiation. Key projects include studying the role of esBAF complex in suppressing non-coding RNA expression, mechanisms of enhancer RNAs in gene regulation, and how nucleosome positioning influences ES cell pluripotency.
Research Interests: Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), epigenetic regulation, nucleosome remodeling complexes (e.g., esBAF, ncBAF), chromatin dynamics, stem cell biology, and the molecular basis of developmental disorders and cancers linked to chromatin dysfunction.
Recent publications highlight her lab’s focus on transcriptional regulation at cis-regulatory elements, metal homeostasis pathways, and chromatin remodeling in cancer. Her work bridges basic molecular mechanisms with translational insights into stem cell therapies and disease mechanisms.
