Sarah Gunn is a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Leicester's School of Psychology and Vision Sciences. She is also a registered clinical psychologist with extensive experience in neuropsychological and physical health psychology settings. Her clinical work includes developing and delivering Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) programs for individuals affected by Huntington's disease. She holds ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) funding and a European Huntington's Disease Network Lesley Jones Seed Fund to support her research and clinical initiatives.
Her research focuses on cognition, behavior, and emotion in aging and neurodegenerative illnesses, particularly Huntington's disease. Key areas include psychological impacts of physical health conditions, caregiver burden, healthcare staff stressors, and end-of-life care. She collaborates with the Huntington’s Disease Association of England and Wales, co-leads the Leicester Huntington's Disease Network, and supports doctoral trainees in neurological and physical health research.
Her recent publications emphasize systematic reviews on caregiver burden, patient safety communication, and qualitative studies on irritability in Huntington's disease. Funding and grants underpin her work, including evaluations of mental health services for Huntington's patients and caregiver support interventions.
Dr. Gunn’s contributions extend to clinical practice, including NHS and third-sector collaborations, and advancing evidence-based models for psychological distress in neurodegenerative diseases. Her work bridges academic research and practical clinical applications, aiming to improve mental wellbeing for patients, families, and healthcare providers.
