Sarah Griffin, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the College of Human Sciences and Humanities at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University, completed her internship at Yale University School of Medicine/Yale-New Haven Hospital, and undertook postdoctoral training at the University of Missouri.
- Research Focus: Personality psychology and maladaptive behaviors, particularly substance use and emotion regulation.
- Clinical Expertise: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing.

Dr. Griffin employs Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to study daily life behaviors influenced by personality traits and contextual factors. Her work addresses impulsivity, self-injurious behavior, psychometrics, and therapeutic interventions for substance use and chronic suicidality.
She mentors students in the Clinical Psychology master’s and Health Service Psychology doctoral programs, actively building a research lab focused on personality pathology and impulse-control difficulties. Dr. Griffin will accept doctoral students starting in the 2022-2023 academic year.
