Dr. Sarah Earthy is a Senior Lecturer in Community and Health within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Winchester. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Surrey (2005), focusing on social capital and social exclusion in urban and rural contexts. Her research specializes in the sociology of health and illness, particularly exploring experiences of illness/injury, recovery processes, and community-based interventions. She has led/co-investigated projects funded by the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research, ESRC, and the Police Dependents’ Trust, including studies on learning disabilities support in the New Forest and trauma patient care experiences. Her methodological expertise includes narrative analysis and qualitative research design. She has contributed chapters to Researching Social Life (Sage Publications) and published in journals like Injury and British Journal of General Practice.
Her academic career includes prior roles at Surrey University and earlier work in public health planning with the UK Department of Health. She actively collaborates with organizations like Mencap and Winchester Basics Bank on service evaluations, emphasizing community engagement and healthcare equity.
